The Unit of Reproductive Endocrinology of the 1st Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) provides education at undergraduate and postgraduate level, in the wider field of Reproductive Endocrinology.

Pregraduate education

The Unit of Reproductive Endocrinology of the 1st Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) provides education at the undergraduate level, in the wider field of Reproductive Endocrinology.

Courses

Postgraduate education (Greece)

  • According to Ministerial Decree Α9c/33800/20-11-98, the 1st Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of AUTh, in the context of granting a full speciality in Obstetrics and Gynecology, practices the trainees and grants the two (2) months of Endocrinology required for the final obtaining the speciality.
  • This practice, apart from the trainees in the 1st Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of AUTh, also concerns the trainees in the other University Obstetrics and Gynecology Departments of AUTh as well as those of the NHS Departments of the Hospitals of Northern Greece.
  • The exercise is carried out under the responsibility of the Unit of Reproductive Endocrinology of the Department (professor D.G. Goulis) and includes theoretical and practical lessons. Trainees or specialists doctors and other specialities other than Obstetrics – Gynecology, such as Endocrinologists, Urologists, Paediatricians – Endocrinologists, Biopathologists etc., have the possibility to attend the two-month training, after consultation of the Department in which they serve with the Reproductive Endocrinology Unit of the 1st Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, AUTh.

Training Program

  • The training program in Reproductive Endocrinology lasts two (2) months. It can start any month of the year (except July – August), after consultation with the Reproductive Endocrinology Unit of the 1st Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, AUTh (+30 2313 323.131 or 1st.dept.obgyn@gmail.com).
  • Interns must attend “Papageorgiou” General Hospital clinics three (3) days each week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Discussion of Human Reproduction topics, with the presence of endocrinologists, obstetricians-gynecologists, urologists, pediatric endocrinologists, psychiatrists, dermatologists, biopathologists and biologists

Clinics

Female Reproductive Endocrinology
Monday 09:00 – 14:30
Subject: Female Reproductive Endocrinology, with an emphasis on women with menstrual disorders and those about menopause

Male Reproductive Endocrinology
Wednesday 10:30 – 14:30
Subject: Male Reproductive, with an emphasis on the male with hypogonadism and infertility, as well as cases of gender dysphoria

Metabolic and Endocrine Complications of Pregnancy
Friday 10:30 – 14:30
Subject: diabetes mellitus, thyroid, pituitary and adrenal disorders, other endocrine and metabolic diseases during pregnancy

Special approaches

Semen laboratory

Once a week, after arrangement
Purpose: performance and interpretation of a classic spermiogram, special function tests

Medical Nutrition Therapy

Once a week, after arrangement
Purpose: approaching patients with relevant problems (gestational diabetes, PCOS)

Physical Exercise

Once a week, after arrangement
Object: approaching women with similar problems (gestational diabetes, PCOS, infertility)

Case discussion

Presentation of interesting cases and thorough discussion regarding their diagnostic and therapeutic issues

Collaborations

  • Most of the activities are carried out in close collaboration with the Human Reproduction Unit of the 1st Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, AUTh
  • Outpatient clinics take place on the ground floor of the “Papageorgiou” General Hospital, at the “Obstetrics – Gynecology” station

Scientific activities

  • During the two-month training, the trainees have the opportunity to attend and actively participate in all the scientific and educational activities of the 1st Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of AUTh.

Evaluation

  • The training is completed with an oral examination during which, in the form of a free discussion, the knowledge acquired by the trainee physician during his/her exercise is evaluated.
  • After the successful completion of the exercise, the trainee receives a relevant certificate from the Unit of Reproductive Endocrinology confirming the two-month training and detailing the fields in which he was trained.

Postgraduate education (International)

The Unit of Reproductive Endocrinology of the 1st Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) provides education at postgraduate level, in the wider field of Reproductive Endocrinology, as it is:

  • This training concerns qualified Endocrinologists and trainees in Endocrinology and lasts one (1) or two (2) months.
  • Trainees or specialists of other specialities besides Endocrinology, such as Obstetricians – Gynecologists, Urologists, Pediatricians – Endocrinologists and Biopathologists, have the possibility to join the training, after consultation with the Reproductive Endocrinology Unit of the 1st Obstetrics – Gynecology Clinic of AUTh.
  • The exercise is carried out under the responsibility of the Reproductive Endocrinology Unit of the Department (professor D.G. Goulis) and includes theoretical and practical lessons.
